Armenian-American alternative metal band formed in 1994 in Los Angeles by Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian under the name Soil, and in 1995 adopted the current name. All members of the band are of Armenian descent. Between 1998 and 2005, the band released five studio albums, each of which went platinum. More than 40 million copies of the albums have been sold worldwide
